Everyone who likes art and surf culture will love meeting Mark Johnson, master surfboard shaper. He will lead a slide presentation showing all the steps taken in designing, building, and shaping a surfboard. Materials, samples and tools will be on display for visitors to enjoy.
Johnson is celebrated for his exceptional craftsmanship and innovation with Hobie Surfboards, one of the most iconic brands in surfing history. With a profound understanding of hydrodynamics and materials, Johnson creates surfboards tailored to a wide variety of styles and conditions. His work honors traditional shaping techniques while seamlessly integrating modern design innovations, ensuring optimal performance for surfers of all levels.
One notable achievement in his career was the meticulous replication of one of the first ten boards shaped by Hobie Alter in 1950, showcasing his deep respect for the brand’s legacy. Over the decades, Johnson has worked closely with other luminaries in the surfing world, drawing on his expertise to create surfboards that embody both form and function. His attention to detail and ability to balance classic design principles with contemporary performance demands make his boards highly sought after by surfers around the globe.
